Dental Helps Milestone Dental Clinic

Williams from Delta Dental presented Milestone President and CEO Jim
Hamilton and Milestone Dental Clinic Administrator Kathy Olson a check
as part of a grant to help the Dental Clinic expand its service area and
provide services to more special needs patients. The Milestone Dental
Clinic is the only free standing clinic in the nation designed to serve
only the Developmentally Disabled population.

Peg Hanson the "Service Above Self Award" for her commitment to Milestone,
Inc. The awards honors outstanding members of the community who have made
extraordinary contributions to the area.

Helps the Salvation Army this holiday season
Individuals from Milestone
can be found throughout the city of Rockford this holiday season ringing
bells for the Salvation Army. This is an activity that is enjoyed by all
each year.
  
Harlem
Wizards visit Milestone Training Center
Members of the Harlem Wizard
Basketball team showed off their skills to everyone at the Milestone
Training center. Individuals got a chance to shoot some hoops while gaining
some tips on handling a basketball from the members of the team. The Harlem
Wizards were in Rockford for a game at East High School.
  
Illinois Law
Enforcement Run for Special Olympics stopped at RocVale.
Rockford police officers
took to the streets to raise money for Special Olympics during the Illinois
Law Enforcement Run. The group was greeted by a cheering crowd when they
stopped at RocVale to hand off the torch to the next group of runners.
Statewide more than 3,000 officers took part in the 1,500 mile run.

cornerstone of the
second Rockford
Children's Home, now
known as Rocvale was
removed from the
building and opened
on January 3, 2007.

Christmas Party
There was a festive
atmosphere at Harmony
Hall during the Annual
Christmas Party for
Milestone sponsored by
the Rockford Association
of Clubs. Everyone
enjoyed the lunch, music
and fun. Each person
received a special
Christmas gift as part
of the festivities.

Milestone helps the
Salvation Army
Individuals from the
Milestone Training center
spent many hours this
holiday season ringing bells
for the Salvation Army. All
the funds collected in the
red kettles will be used by
the Salvation army to
provide services to Rockford
area residents.

bowling tournament
Milestone was well represented
at the regional bowling
tournament recently held at the
Cherry Bowl.
 
Milestone helps Rockford Flood
Victims
Individuals from Milestone
Industries presented a check for
$300 to Mick Manne from the
Salvation Army to help victims of
the Labor day floods in Rockford.
Manne explained how the money would
be used and would be done to help
the people who lost their homes in
the flood.

Ronald McDonald
Care Mobile Partnership a Success
The partnership with
the Ronald McDonald Care mobile is being
termed a huge success by the Milestone
Dental Clinic staff. There have been
over 500 dental visits since the
partnership began last spring, 232 of
the visits were in September. Children
are starting to be seen every six
months, and for many this is their first
routine dental check up. Dental Director
Dr. Jason Grinter says many families
with children who have developmental
disabilities are learning about
Milestone Dental Clinic and the services
offered for the first time because they
visited the Care mobile. In December the
Care Mobile will be in Rockford, Dixon,
Lena and Freeport.

Milestone Team walks in Strides against
breast cancer walk
Individuals
and staff from Milestone raised over
$600 for the fight against Breast
Cancer. They also completed the four
mile course the day of the event.

RocVale
receives 2 grants from the William Howard
Charitable Trust
The William Howard Charitable
Trust awarded 2 grants to Milestones RocVale
Childrens Home. One will fund RocVales Boy
Scout program, and the second provides the
funding needed for the construction of a new
basketball court and paths.
The William Howard Charitable
Trust was established in 1982 as the charitable
component of the companies of William Charles,
Ltd. Those companies include Rockford Blacktop
Construction Co., William Charles Investments,
and the William Charles Waste Companies.
Together they comprise one of the largest
locally owned companies in the region.

WREX-TV
tells the RocVale Story
RocVale Children's Home received one of the grants
from the 2006 Rockford Pro Am and was showcased
during the special Pro Am program aired on WREX TV.

Individuals raise money for Northwest Illinois Special
Olympics
A check
for $1,000 was presented to Debbie Kelly, area director
for the NW Illinois Special Olympics program by
Milestone individuals. They raised the money by
volunteering at the annual Taste of Rockford event.

Help at Rockfords Pro Am Golf Tournament
Over 70 volunteers from Milestone helped
at Rockfords annual Pro Am Golf tournament.
Milestones RocVale Childrens Home received one of the
grants from this years event. The money will be used
to purchase equipment for an exercise room at the facility.
  
Community groups
build a new playground at Milestone Training Center
Grants from Kiwanis Club of Rockford and the Alpine Kiwanis group provided the funding for a
new 3 bay swing set at MTC. Staff from Kids Around the
World designed the new swing set which has wheelchair
swings, and adult chair swings, and their volunteers built
the unit. Rockford Gymnastics' Academy donated the
rubber mulch that was needed for the project.

Team Milestone Wins big at Northwest Illinois Track and Field
meet
Over 140
athletes competed in the various events. 43 gold medals
were earned and those athletes will be heading to Normal
Illinois in June for the state competition.
  
Everyone enjoys RocVale's Easter egg hunt
Over 1,500 candy
filled Easter eggs were hidden on RocVale's campus thanks to a
donation from " The Undertaker". Both the residents and
staff enjoyed looking for them.

Milestone Training Center honored at Jelly Bean Ball
The individuals
at the Milestone Training center made some of the decorations
for the Jelly Bean ball, an annual fundraiser for Easter Seals,
Children's Development center. This is the second year MTC has
helped with this event.
   
Milestone Dental Clinic staff joins Ronald McDonald care Mobile
During a March
17th, press conference Rockford Health System CEO Gary Kaatz
announced a new partnership between the Children's medical
Center at Rockford Health System and The Milestone Dental
Clinic. Milestone CEO Jim Hamilton explained how the dental
staff will be on the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile throughout the
year working with the Rockford Health System staff. Milestone
Dental Director Dr. Jason Grinter explained to those in
attendance how Milestone continues to be a leader and a national
model. Representatives from the McDonald Foundation were also on
hand and spoke to the crowd.

RocVale and Milestone named beneficiaries
of this year's Pro Am Tournament
RocVale
Children's Home was selected from a field of 32 applications to
be the recipient of one of 3 grants from the proceeds at this
year's Pro Am Tournament. The grant will be used to buy
equipment for an exercise room at RocVale and is in recognition
of the 100th anniversary of the facility. This year's
tournament is July 10 at Forest Hills Country Club.

Helping Others over the Holidays
RocVale individuals
made the holidays a little brighter for others this year thanks
to the Community secret santa project. The individuals decorated
and filled gift-bags and made candy reindeer for Jesus
Ministries and delivered them on December 19th, just in time for
Christmas. The items were given to the homeless. After the
delivery was made everyone went to Pino's Pizza to celebrate a
job well done.

Milestone Dental Clinic Expands Hours
Starting January 9,
2006 Milestone Dental clinic will be open until 6pm on Monday. The
hours will remain 8am to 4:30 pm for Tuesday through Friday.

Make a Difference Day
Donation
Bake sales were held at Milestone
industries to raise money for Make a Difference day. Several
Milestone individuals and staff took the money to the City of Rockford
Community services department and asked that it be used to help the
evacuees from Hurricane Katrina who had been moved to Rockford.

Record setting year for
card sales
Milestone artists made 1238 holiday cards
to fill orders placed by businesses and individuals. This is more
than 3 times the number of cards sold in 2004. Milestone
Industries makes the cards throughout the year, ordering information is
available on this website.

Milestone Dancers perform
throughout the area
Throughout the
Holiday season Milestone Dancers will be performing at various
locations including the Lutheran center, Grand Victorian, Bickford
House, and Park Towers.
Ringing Bells for
Salvation Army
Once again,
individuals from Industries are showing their community spirit
of helping others. On four different days, from the end of
November through early December, teams of two individuals at a
time rang bells for donations for one hour at a time at Woodmans
grocery store. Even though they are inside the building,
with the constant opening of the doors, they did experience the
cold weather. They greeted the customers and thanked them for
their donations. Each team seemed to be proud of doing
their part!
Illinois Voices
On August 31,
2005, eleven individuals from Industries participated in a self
advocacy training put on by the ARC at the Millennium Center.
The presentation consisted of videos, scenarios, group
activities, celebration of gifts and discussions of ways to
support self advocacy and honoring choices. Susie Royster
and Barb Pittaway impressed the presenter with their questions
and sharing during the discussions. The ladies were asked
to be part of a video that would be used for state wide training
in self advocacy. Susie and Barb eagerly agreed.
Video Taping day
arrived on November 30. The ladies were given the
questions that would be asked ahead of time. Susie was
excited and nervous. Barb was cool as a cucumber. Both
ladies did a wonderful job of telling their life story and
sharing their opinions on ways to improve the community for
people with disabilities. They will be paid $100 each for
their efforts! Susie and Barb will each receive a DVD of their
interview as well as a copy of the completed video training
tape. They realize they may or may not end up in the
video. What a wonderful experience for Susie and Barb!
